How it all started…
Lockdown 2020. Yup, the year we would all like to forget but some good stuff came out of it. Like the surge in home-baking. Sourdough became a social media star and home-bakers up and down the land found solace in making bread.
Andy had been selling fab flour to restaurant chains for over a decade but with everything shut, he found himself with a hefty hoard of the white stuff. As flour vanished from supermarket shelves, he pivoted with lightning speed to selling his flour to home-bakers and Risen was born.

How it’s going…
We soon realised that there wasn’t a flour subscription service out there. Flowers, yes but flour, no. And who wants the hassle of hunting it down again? Setting up our handy subscription service meant that you guys get just the right amount of flour you need for the baking you do.
With heaps of information out there, another mission was to demystify bread making, so along came our School of Baking. We’ve created how-to videos, produced easy-to-read articles and shared recipes that we hope will, as our strapline says, empower the home-baker.

Our ethics…
Launching a start-up in 2021 and ignoring the climate crisis we are facing is, in our mind, lunacy. It’s a mad enough world out there as it is.
Our mission is to leave a minimum impact on our environment by sourcing our flour from millers committed to biodiversity and sustainability and offsetting our carbon footprint by planting trees with National Parks. We are also donating a percentage of our profits to cleaning the oceans of plastic .We have young kids and, like most parents, we want to hand over a planet that has been nurtured and respected.
